The terms used on our product pages and certificates, explained plainly. Each term has its own page.
- Bacteriostatic water
- Water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which limits bacterial growth in a vial opened several times.
- CAS number
- A unique registry number assigned to a chemical substance by the Chemical Abstracts Service.
- Certificate of analysis (COA)
- A document issued by a testing laboratory for one specific lot.
- HPLC
- High-performance liquid chromatography, a separation method used to measure peptide purity.
- In vitro
- Taking place outside a living organism, in a tube or in culture.
- Lot number
- The identifier of a production batch, printed on the vial label.
- Lyophilisation
- Freeze-drying under vacuum.
- Mannitol
- An excipient sometimes added before lyophilisation to stabilise the powder.
- Mass spectrometry
- A method that measures the mass of molecules to confirm the identity of a peptide.
- Molar mass
- The mass of one mole of the substance, in grams per mole (g/mol).
- Molecular formula
- The number of atoms of each element in the molecule.
- Purity
- The proportion of the intended substance in the sample analysed, expressed as a percentage.
- Reconstitution
- Returning a lyophilised powder to solution with a laboratory diluent under controlled conditions.
- Research blend
- A vial containing several peptides in defined amounts, prepared for studies of combined pathways.
- Sequence
- The order of the amino acids that make up a peptide, written from the N-terminus to the C-terminus.
